Shining Its light in, on and for Detroit!
I love the theatre and bringing to life real life heroines such as Sojourner Truth. I had the opportunity to portray her in a monologue , along with other talented women and men who brought to life heroines such as Ida B. Wells, Nina Simone and heroes, at the Detroit Lighthouse Community Theatre. LeDene Lewis is the visionary and Executive Director.
No one would guess that my love for teaching the Word of God and serving as the intercessory prayer leader sometimes masks my passion for the arts. The arts helps children and adults to develop their creativity. Theatre is a great way to learn. Going to the theatre teaches us about people, places, and ideas to which we would not otherwise be exposed. Theatre can serve as a cultural laboratory where we can learn about our past , confront how the past and present maybe related and inspire us to make a difference.
On March 12, 2016, I had the privilege to be a part of a Black History Review entitled “Black History: The Revival” as Sojourner Truth at the Detroit Lighthouse Community Theatre located at the International Institute 111 E. Kirby in Detroit. Sojourner Truth was an African-American preacher, abolitionist and women’s rights activist. After going to court to recover her son, she became the first black woman to win such a case. Her great oratory skills were recognized and her 1800″s speech entitled “Ain’t I A Woman” inspires and intrigues audiences today.
It would be a joy to be available to bring to life christian and secular characters for your ministry or organization. (LdFaygo@gmail.com) As a actress and dramatist, I love to glorify God through drama, poetry readings and portrayals of women characters of the Bible to minister, teach and empower men and women. Such characters as “Eve”, “Sojourner Truth” a homeless woman and a crazy woman have been brought to life by me.
DLCT offers opportunities for community members to lend their creative talents to our city by participating in their productions. Its seasons will include something for everyone from youths to seniors, comedies to musicals to dramas. Also it provides an array of experiences from production planning to the mounting of and acting in a variety of production types in order to fulfill its mission.
Mission: To Shine in, on, and for Detroit!
