Excerpt for Dead Lions Don’t Roar

A motivating and inspiring book of poetry should always leave the reader with thoughts about personal development and doses of inspiration … and that is exactly what Dead Lions Don’t Roar does. Whilst the poem entitled the name of the collection speaks volumes about using our gifts and talent and finding our own unique roar, there are a number of other poems that share the essence of the book. Here is a sneak peak of one such poem:

If Men were God

There would be no more us,

Long Dead and buried,

Forgotten with the times,

An atonement for our sins

If men were God….

This poem makes us think about what each of our individual role and purpose is in life, which will then motivate us to achieve…our very best. This is the entire purpose of Dead Lion’s Don’t Roar.

About The Book

Dead Dogs Don’t Bark is the second poetry collection from the acclaimed author, Tolu A. Akinyemi. With a similar tone and style to Dead Lions Don’t Roar (Tolu’s first poetry collection) this follow up masterpiece is nothing short of pure motivation. The poems cover a range of topics that many in life are aware of, that the Author himself has experienced and that we all, whatever our age, need support in. Beautifully written, the poems speak volumes to all age groups as they feature finding your inner talent, celebrating your individuality and distinct voice. The poetry collection has didactic elements for evaporating the effects of peer pressure and criminality amongst many others. Also covering mental health, relationships, career focus, and general life issues, the poetry is bitter sweet, amusing and thought provoking in turns.

Excerpt for Dead Dogs Don’t Bark

A follow on to the success of Dead Lions Don’t Roar, Dead Dogs Don’t Bark goes one step further. As well as self-motivation, Dead Dogs Don’t Bark digs deep into society, into behavior and into relationships that make existence worthwhile. An insight into the true power of the collection rings strong in the following snippet:

Cuddle up to Excellence

Else Mediocrity can catch up with you like a heatwave

Released in full force like a loaf oven baked

The days of long service awards are over

If your dream is to buy a Range Rover

Then you have to embrace excellence

This poem reinforces that it is healthy to have dreams and ambitions but that we must remember to strive for them and not just expect them … not taking things for granted and putting your best foot forward in life encapsulates the resonating theme of Dead Dogs Don’t Bark.

40 Days of Healing Excerpt (Day 2)

Matthew 4:17 (NASB)

From that time, Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Remember what you put down has the potential to weigh you down. Nothing on this earth is powerful enough to keep you down unless you desire to be down.

God gave you measures to ensure your safety on earth. The security to staying safe begins with repentance. Do not let ignorance or pride keep you from godly repentance.

Repent, put “it” down, turn from “it” and give God permission to destroy and detach “it” from your life.  Often, we think “I can just stop doing “it” when I get ready,” but either getting ready never comes or mastering the will power or mindset to stop never comes.

When we really desire change, we must honestly seek to destroy the strongholds that have kept us from the change we want.

Let’s Pray:

Father as I come before your presence with an expected end, please help me to lay aside every sin and weight that has so easily held me captive against Your purpose, my desires, and Your will for my life. I ask You now to forgive me of my sins, the things I have done knowing that You and Your Word has warned me against, and even those things that I have not known to be a sin but were, in Jesus name. Amen.

Your Prayer:

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

What is the “it” that you know you need to be forgiven for and why has it been so hard for you to turn away from “it”? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

How do you feel right now by making the decision to leave the thing that displeases God behind? ______ Afraid ______Hopeful _____Joyful ______Happy

Your Declaration: This Day, God Has Forgiven Me!

Excerpt

“So I guess you’re my knight in shining armor coming to rescue the damsel in distress…”

The tone of her voice was not lost on him. There was an edge in it he didn’t like.

She continued, “How many of us have there been over the years?”

“What?” He stared down at her.

She sat up straight and scooted away from him. She stared at him. “How many of us have there been? Six years…let’s see…yeah, I remember the three-month rule, so what is that, twenty-four?”

“You want to do this? Now?” His forehead creased in confusion. What had he said? How could she go from sweet one minute to this the next?

“We might as well. All this pretending we’re all good is making my stomach sick.”

He sighed. He wasn’t going to take the bait. Besides, she really didn’t want the answer. She just wanted to find a way to not let him into her heart.

“Answer me. How many?”

“No.”

“No?”

“N-O. No.”
